Amrita Rao riding her way to fame
Personally:
Amrita Rao (born June 17th 1981) , one of the most in demand actresses of Bollywood. She is someone who can look super glamorous or the girl next door with ease. She has a strong fan following who are attracted to drop dead Indian looks. They say nice things come in small packages and Amrita is definitely one of them. The 5 feet tall petite actress is the stuff crushes are made of.
Amrita belongs to the Chitrapur Brahmin family. Apart from English and Hindi, she is also proficient in Konkani and Marathi. Speaking of Marathi, she has also acted in a lot of marathi movies. She has a twin sister who is almost a reflection of herself Preeta, who is also a model. Amrita Rao is a graduate in psychology.
Professionally:
Amrita landed in the show biz castle through the modelling route. Amrita Rao has featured in over 37 advertisments. The first advertisement which she cherishes closely even to this day,is the Fairever Face cream ad. Then followed Close-up ads, Nestle Bru Coffee ads and others. However what really got her noticed was the Cadbury Perk ad. Director Raj Kanwar liked the role Amrita played in the ad of a newly wed lady who waits for her husband in the Cadbury Perk ad and gave her the first movie role in Ab Ke Baras.
Amrita became famous in the year 2003 when her teeny bopper movie 'Ishq Vishk' clicked and became a big hit. Amrita Rao is now almost in the top league bracket with hits like Masti, Main Hoon Na and Vivah to her credit. However Amrita has her share of turkies as well with movies like 'Shikhar' 'Deewar' and 'Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi' failing badly. Her biggest flop was 'Pyare Mohan' a comedy in which no one laughed.
Amrita Rao is now among the top 5 on demand actresses- the other four being Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Ayesha Takia and Vidya Balan- all of whom who have strong potential to be the next best thing in Bollywood. However Amrita Rao is criticized for her mundane form of acting which is almost the same in every movie and even monotonous style of dialogue delivery. However among the top league actresses, if some one has to feature a petite looking beauty with slim and delicate features, then Amrita Rao is the best choice.
Amrita Rao has been the recipient of 6 awards, mostly for her performances in Ishq Vishq and Vivah. She has done very few movies (just 12 of them) and is choosy about the roles she plays. Amrita Rao's latest achievement was the movie Vivah which was one of the biggest hits of 2006. Movies on the pipeline are 'My Name is Anthony Gonsalves' and 'Hook ya Crook,' which is in the scripting stage. Amrita Rao is also the brand ambassador of the jewelry giant D'Damas.
What Amrita Rao likes:
Amrita Rao is a total home bird. She does not quite like parties and hates loud music. She is a total foodie and is crazy for coconut curry rice. Amrita does not have any hang-ups about dieting because she does not tend to put on weight. Amrita is gifted with a naturally slim figure, good genes and a strong metabolism!

What Amrita Rao hates:
- People who throw in attitude
- People who are selfish
- People who do not treat women well.
Because she is drop dead beautiful! Apart from that, she is a beautiful person at heart. She is an ardent social worker too. One thing people do not quite know about her is that she is still a child at heart who loves to pull practical jokes. Amrita Rao fooled the entire country on April fool's day of 2006 by claiming in Times of India that she is getting married and packing off her bags.
